World-renowned solo bass virtuoso Charles Berthoud makes a grand comeback this October! His 2026 China Tour Play With Fire – Extreme Bass is officially announced. For the very first time in China, he will perform tracks from his brand-new EP Play With Fire live onstage. Through groundbreaking musical expression, he once again redefines the artistic boundaries of modern solo bass, with live renditions of his new EP serving as the core highlight of his 2026 China run.

Charles Berthoud，全球极具影响力的独奏贝斯艺术家、当代低音演奏革新者，出身英国伦敦，自幼学习古典钢琴，本科以最高荣誉Summa Cum Laude毕业于伯克利音乐学院。
他是国际贝斯媒体长期聚焦的核心人物，常年登上《No Treble》《Bass Player》专业刊物，2021年拿下No Treble年度读者最喜爱贝斯手第3名，2025年再度跻身年度榜单前列，多次受邀录制专栏专访与播客节目。
依托古典钢琴复调思维，他打磨出独树一帜的极速双手点弦、分层立体Slap击勾、单人实时Loop三位一体演奏体系，实现一把贝斯同步演绎主旋律、和声、底层律动多层声部。整场独奏无需伴奏乐队，一人完成完整乐曲编排，打破大众“贝斯仅作为伴奏乐器”的固有认知。
在校期间，他便与伯克利贝斯教授Jim Stinnett合著专业技法教材《Two-Handed Tapping》，后推出三册系统教学课程《Creative Tapping for Electric Bass》，成为全球贝斯手学习点弦技术的标准参考内容。

Hailing from London, UK, Charles Berthoud is an internationally influential solo bassist and innovator of contemporary bass performance. He began classical piano training at an early age and graduated from Berklee College of Music with the highest academic distinction, Summa Cum Laude.
A staple figure featured by leading global bass publications, he has been regularly profiled in authoritative outlets including No Treble and Bass Player. He claimed 3rd place in No Treble’s Reader’s Favorite Bassist of the Year poll in 2021 and ranked high on the same annual list again in 2025, while receiving numerous invitations for feature interviews and podcast appearances.
Drawing on contrapuntal thinking rooted in classical piano, he has crafted a signature three-in-one performance system: lightning-fast two-handed tapping, layered three-dimensional slap bass, and real-time solo looping. With just one bass, he simultaneously delivers lead melodies, harmonies and underlying rhythmic grooves. His full solo sets require no backing band, as he composes and performs complete musical pieces single-handedly, shattering the widespread misconception that the bass exists solely as an accompanying instrument.
During his studies at Berklee, he co-authored the technical textbook Two-Handed Tapping alongside distinguished bass professor Jim Stinnett. He later released a three-part instructional series Creative Tapping for Electric Bass, which has become the global standard learning resource for bassists mastering tapping techniques.
He holds official deep partnerships with leading instrument and amplifier brands: Schecter manufactures his signature mass-production bass model CB-4, engineered and optimized exclusively for tapping and slap solo performance. He also serves as an endorsed artist for Laney bass amplifiers, releasing official demo content showcasing his signature rig.
In March 2025, he took the stage at Zankel Hall within Carnegie Hall, the iconic venue for classical music, sharing the bill with world-class instrumentalists including Bernth. On June 12, 2026, he released his brand-new instrumental EP Play With Fire, featuring five original compositions, which will be performed live as a key highlight throughout his China tour.
