Sönke Meinen, born in 1991 in East Frisia, Germany, developed a connection with the acoustic guitar from a young age. He studied under Emile Joseph before attending the Dresden University of Music. Over the years, Sönke has worked with renowned artists such as Thomas Fellow, Stephan Bormann, and Reentko Dirks, gaining extensive performance experience. After graduating in 2017, he embarked on a global tour, showcasing his talents both as a solo artist and in collaboration with other musicians, including guitarist Philipp Wiechert, Danish violinist Bjark Falgren, and jazz vocalist Anna-Lucia Rupp. If not for the pandemic, Sönke would have been a regular guest at the Fingerstyle China WAGF competition.

Sönke’s fingerstyle artistry blends elements of jazz, world music, and classical music, influences that continually shape his compositions. His unique style and exceptional musicality have earned him high praise in the guitar world. Now in his early thirties, Sönke has won numerous international awards, including the Open String Competition (2008) and the European Guitar Award (2012). A prominent German actor once described him as “the most outstanding and musical guitarist under the Flemish sun.”

In 2016, Sönke won the prestigious World Fingerstyle Competition in Poland, judged by luminaries such as Martin Taylor and Tommy Emmanuel, solidifying his position as a top-tier guitarist. Fingerstyle China invited him to perform at the 2017 WAGF Music Festival, followed by a domestic tour that same year. His captivating music, along with his rare nylon-string crossover performances, left a strong impression on Chinese audiences, garnering significant attention in recent years.
